Chiropractic BioPhysics Research Update
Chiropractic BioPhysics leads the way with Scientific Research
Surgeons, Neurologists and Physiotherapists supporting Postural and Structural Correction
We are in exciting times with regard to Chiropractic BioPhysics Research and our clinical work @ The Spinal Centre. Multiple landmark papers and clinical trials have been recently published that will enhance the care of all patients attending the Practice.
Our Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) colleagues in America, Canada and Egypt have been steadily working on exciting new research that will revolutionise the way in which chiropractic should be practiced in Australia.
Our CBP colleagues have produced fantastic research. Not only scientifically validating Postural and Structural Correction, but also providing clarity to guide and achieve the best possible results for patients in curve correction and spinal rehabilitation.
However, what is really interesting is the research is not only being completed by chiropractors. The understanding of postural correction and sagittal balance is being picked up by Orthopaedic Surgeons, Vascular Surgeons, Neurologist and many Physiotherapists. From Paris to Madrid, Korea and large cohort studies in China.
Indeed some of the more recent and elegant research has been completed by Physiotherapists (who now have PHD’s) from Egypt in conjunction with CBP Non Profit. CBP Non Profit is the research arm of Chiropractic BioPhysics under direction from Dr. Deed Harrison, son of Dr. Donald Harrison who pioneered the technique and developed some of the early engineering modelling and mathematical data on the spine.
Dr. Hooper’s Comment
When I first started in college back in the late 80’s, I would have to admit that some of the research behind standard chiropractic was poor. In my first decade of Practice, after completing a Masters in Clinical Acupuncture, I became increasingly interested in the science of spinal and postural correction. Enter Chiropractic BioPhysics.
The scientific research and evidenced based rationale of Chiropractic BioPhysics is now quite impressive. It has been extensively demonstrated in the scientific literature that abnormal posture and sagittal plane alignments of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbo-pelvic spine regions impacts human health and well-being.
Today, there exists a plethora of published research documenting that CBP Technique – or Corrective Chiropractic – is a leading non-surgical rehabilitation system for the restoration of the natural curvatures of the spine.
According to Deed Harrison, CEO of CBP Non Profit:
“High quality randomised clinical trial evidence points to the fact that CBP methods offers superior long-term outcomes for treating patients with various cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral disorders.”
“CBP Technique research has demonstrated that patient’s achieving true spine correction after treatment are the ones who improve in multiple variables including:
- pain intensity and disability,
- range of motion,
- sensori-motor control,
- dizziness,
- arm pain and leg pain,
- neurophysiology measurements such as improved spinal cord velocity, amplitude, and sympathetic/autonomic tone.”
“These statements are verified by the fact that CBP NonProfit researchers have published approximately 240 peer reviewed research investigations detailing the scientific constructs of reliability, validity, clinical utility, and clinical outcomes of the CBP Technique systems.” Follow the link to the Chiropractic BioPhysics Research for a current list of published studies.
True Evidence Based Care for Better Patient Outcomes
Currently, there is a very large push for health care within Australia to become more evidenced based. Over the next few months, we will be publishing more of the exciting new clinical trials that are relevant to patients within the Practice.
Some of it can be a little heavy in terms of reading, but as a patient it will help you understand how we can help you and the reproducible results you can reasonably expect from care.
What is great is that we can now show with scientific proof how Corrective Chiropractic can improve neurophysiology, human health, functional performance, pain, disability, and dare I say – various disease conditions. More detail will follow with the appropriate references, but there is background reading currently available on the Chiropractic BioPhysics Research and Scientific References pages.
To kick off the year – and it is a particularly ground breaking study – is the link between increased blood flow to the brain after restoring the curve with in the neck.
That’s right! Increased Cerebral Blood Flow, evidenced on brain magnetic resonance angiogram, following correction of Cervical Lordosis.
The paper authored by Katz and Fedorchuk, published in the prestigious journal of Brain Circulation, is very exciting from a Chiropractic BioPhysics point of view. The very tools and treatment protocols used in the case series, is exactly what we use within the clinic.
Note this is NOT standard chiropractic. These are Chiropractic BioPhysics protocols of postural and structural correction.
According to the authors; ‘These results indicate that correction of cervical lordosis may be associated with an immediate increase in cerebral blood flow.’
Very Exciting Stuff. As we say regularly in the clinic – You cannot drug yourself out of a structural problem.
We shall post details of the study next week. So stay tuned.
