The 2014 International Congress on Natural Medicine
It was with great pleasure that I attended the International Congress on Natural Medicine in Sydney over the June long weekend.
This was one of the most significant events on the Australian Natural Medicine calendar.
It was good to get some of the most up to date information and the latest science in the field of Natural Medicine.
Ironically, I was only one of three Chiropractors in attendance. Most attendees were Integrative Medicine GP’s, Naturopaths and Clinical Nutritionists.
Many presenters were Functional Medicine GP’s or professors or PHD researchers in nutrition, genetics and Dieticians.
‘Is Acupuncture As Good As Drugs – Or Better?’
A number of patients recently have been commenting on the recent publicity Acupuncture has been receiving in the news lately.
Acupuncture is just as good as drugs at relieving pain in people’s lower backs and from sprained ankles and migraines, a ground-breaking hospital trial has found.
The extraordinary finding could open the door to Australian hospitals offering the low-cost Chinese medicine therapy used by more than 1 billion people worldwide for pain relief, particularly in Asia.
Acupuncture has been trailed in the emergency department of a number of leading Melbourne Hospitals, including the Alfred, Northern, Cabrini and Epworth.
The purpose of the trial is to see if acupuncture could relieve acute pain in patents presenting to hospital and how it would compare to the normal drug protocols.
Ablett’s Food For Thought
Being a Geelong fan, I deep down, consider that Gary Ablett is still one of us.
Perhaps it is denial but I still have trouble reconciling that he has gone to ‘the Suns’.
Like all true Geelong fans, we believe that he will return to the fold. To win one more premiership in the twilight of his career.
Dreaming. Hoping. Praying. He is, after all, the son of god.
Ok,
Probably not going to happen.
But what is worth a mention is his diet.

Over recent months I have watched with a sense of horror the wave of anti-Chiropractic stories and headlines in newspapers and social media.
None more confronting than those that appeared a few weeks ago with the frightening claim of a Chiropractor breaking the neck of a baby.
This is a terrible situation for the baby and obviously our hearts go out to the parents. However, I am horrified that this case has been used for nothing more than political spin and grandstanding.
The Chiropractor did not cause the injury – AND this fact was known at the time of the ‘press release’.
