National Corporations – How to Manage Your Cows
I wish I wrote this because it is gold. Nothing to do with health – but a good take on managing cows.
As I have a few cattle this had immediate appeal.
If you get offended, you are too PC and obviously hanging on too tight.
Enjoy.
Pepsi and the Carcinogen 4-MEI
In yet another reason to avoid all soft drinks like the plague it appears that Pepsi’ caramel colouring contains a trace amount of carcinogen.
But is ok – it apparently only affects rats.
The chemical is 4-methylimidazole, or 4-MEI, which can form during the cooking process and, as a result, may be found in trace amounts in many foods.
However, notwithstanding the conjecture on 4-MEI, the concern is how does it interact with other chemicals in the cola?
While we may have data on individual chemicals and they are carcinogenic at ‘high’ levels, does the interaction of a number of chemicals have a synergistic effect in the causation of other health issues in the unwary drinker. On this point we have no data.

Antibiotics for Back Pain?
Put down the pisiforms, pack up the needles.
Don’t worry about seeing your Chiropractor or Physio.
You just need antibiotics for your back pain.
You may have noticed in the news last week it was reported that up to 40 per cent of chronic back pain could be cured by simply popping an antibiotic pill, startling new research shows.
This story was not surprisingly picked widely, by most media outlets both here and overseas.
Stretching Program Loaded
Stretching is one of those things that we know we should do, but never find time to do!
Well if you are reading this then you are most likely under care and getting a regular adjustment. But what can you do to help?
Stretching is perhaps one of THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS you can do to facilitate your Neuro-Muscculoskeletal Care.
Unfortunately, most people stretch too little, and when they do, the do so too aggressively. The result: torn muscles, a sense of frustration, and generally more pain.
Stretching needs to become part of your life.
The more time you spend stretching the less likely you are to have injuries of your muscles and ligaments.
Stretching is just like brushing your teeth:
- Stretch every day – spinal hygiene is important.
- Don’t push it too hard – the gums don’t bleed, but you can tear a muscle.
- Make it part of your routine – do you only brush your teeth when they are sore?
- Stretching does not replace the Chiropractor – but enhances your Chiropractic care.
- Does not cost anything – but will save you money and reduce your pain.
Spinal Health Week
It is Spinal Health Week.
An intiative of the Chiropractic Association of Australia, this is a great way to raise public awareness of the importance of the spine in your overall health.
Ok, so what’s so great about Spinal Health Week?
Your spine is of course central to the health of the body. It is indeed the primary control mechanism of the body.
A recent community based cohort study of older adults in Japan showed a strong correlation between spinal posture and future dependence in activities of daily living.
According to the authors:
Accumulated evidence shows how important spinal posture is for aged populations in maintaining independence in everyday life.
However, the cross-sectional designs of most previous studies prevent elucidation of the relationship between spinal posture and future dependence in activities of daily living (ADL).
We tried to clarify the association by measuring spinal posture noninvasively in a community-based prospective cohort study of older adults, paying particular attention to thoracic curvature, lumbar curvature, sacral hip angle, and inclination to determine which parameter is most strongly associated with dependence in ADL.
Basically the study concluded that the more spinal decay, the more hunched over you are – a kyphosis – particularly in the thoracic spine (mid back) the greater the level of incapacity.
